Stones Bitter is currently owned & brewed by Coors. It was orginally brewed by William Stones Ltd in their Cannon Brewery, Sheffield. The brewery was taken over by Bass in the late 1960's & brewing continued until the brewery was closed in 1999. brewing was then transferred to Burton-upon-Trent and the quality of the brew took a tumble, different water you see. Though it's still a cracking drink especially the cask variety served straight from the tap. Like angels dancing on your tongue.

Generations of Sheffielders have been brought up supping Stones & for years it was advertised as Pure Sheffield Gold, though when the Cannon Brewery was closed down this was changed to Pure Yorkshire Gold despite it being brewed in Staffordshire!
