I first had this in Seaside, Florida in 1998. It wasn't commonly available in Cincinnati at that time, though Negra Modelo was. I really like this beer during the summer. I've had it in cans, but they are not as good as the bottles, IMO.

I have not seen Modelo Especial or Negra Modelo on tap anywhere (which means, not in Ohio, for the most part).

Modelo Especial is, in my opinion, the king of the Mexican brews. This endorsement may excite, but let me say that the judgement is based on it being a fantastic all-purpose brew, rather than deliciously exotic.

Modelo Especial is clean, golden, and crisp, and light enough to leave you wanting much, much more. It's well priced, and even tastes good out of the cans. This beer is my go-to in summer. Sweating it out playing paintball? Drink some Especial! Watching baseball? Especial! Mowing the lawn? You get the idea!

This will not be the best beer you ever drink. This beer will taste good to you 24x7, 365 though. And if that isn't grounds for 5/5 I don't know what is.

A light offering from the brewer of Negra Modelo. Crisp and tight. Better than other Mexican beers of the same genre.
