An almost-sweet, almost-thick, almost-black slice of beer heaven. So good, you'll wonder why you've taken so long to have one.

Not a get-drunk-with-the-boys beer. Save that for Boddington's. (Or, if you don't care about taste, BudMillCors, but then, are you really reading this site?)

Instead, enjoy this Scotch Ale as you would a Scotch sans "Ale": indulgently... immerse yourself in the color, texture and scent. Appreciate the play of light in the depths of your glass. Inhale the bouquet, and let the liquid play across your tastebuds.

Then, sit back, smile and your good fortune, and consider the upcoming sip....

Scotch ales seem to be one of those love-them-or-hate-them styles of beer. I really like them when in the right mood, but a little goes a very long way. McEwan's is strong both in terms of alcohol content and flavor - true to the style, it is low on hoppiness, big on malt flavor, and has a fairly heavy mouth feel.

There was a time when I could drink four or five of these in one sitting.

I can barely make it through one now.

(That's a reflection on me, not the beer...)

A wonderfully powerful scotch ale that can easily sit you down and make you consider life.

Great for Chicago winters...
