i think this is one of the best american made triples. a little sweeter than normal.high in alcohol 9.5! i had a few when i was on the east coast. back home it is hard to find but i finally found a place to buy it. if you like triples give this one a try.

It's unusual for a Victory brew - most of their stuff is on the hoppy side, and this is distinctly wheaty. The first couple of sips were okay - it had a complex, exotic, spicey flavor that mixed in an unexpected way with its sweetness. It was all downhill from there, though. It's like an exotic food you try and think you like it until you start to get the "can't swallow it" willies.

This is one of my favorite beers. Imagine a hefeweizen's rowdy older brother, and this is what you might get. It's mostly malty and wheaty, which makes it rather sweet - but be careful: with an alcohol content of 9.5%, it packs a punch. It should certainly be poured into a glass.

Too sweet for my taste... felt like an Indian buffet threw up in my mouth.

Golden Monkey is a Belgian style triple, and should be the pride of Downington. Personally, I love the beer, particularly due to its tones of anise and other Asian spices. Reactions to this brew tend to be feast or famine -- folks are either blown away by the complexity and flavor, or simply don't care for the spiciness and higher alcohol content.

If you do well with sweet (wheats, belgians) or bitter (IPAs) beers, you'll probably find Golden Monkey much to your liking. If you're more of a stout fan, this beer probably is not for you.
