Gem isn't all that much of a gem. It's more of a standard than anything else. Bottle conditioning hasn't helped this beer mature much. Granted, more time in the bottle may have had a more positive effect on this ale. At 4.8% abv, it's got a little kick, but I wasn't really left with much more than a faint aftertaste of hops. Plain is a fairly accurate description.
