One of the crown jewels of Belgian beers. It's dominating feature is alcohol, but it's remarkably well balanced. Almost a controlled substance.

I worked in a pub in England a few years ago, and we had a range of about 30 Belgian beers in there. They well almost all excellent, although I wasn't keen on some of the fruit beers, and mint beer!
Duval was always one of my favorites though. My wife, although not really a beer drinker, used to take a taste of them, and she drank a whole Duvel!
A well balanced beer, strong in taste and alcohol.

I fell in love with Duvel in Antwerp in 96, on a side trip from a job in Amsterdam. I sat in a small pub with a snooker table near by, and delighted in the perfect collection of flavors that I was experiencing. A local pub used to carry Duvel, and I had a few there but a recent fire has partially destroyed the building, and therefore no Duvel for now! I have my own Duvel glass, two actually, one bought locally and one retained from that Belgian pub! I guess i am a beer "snob"!

I had this for the first time in a plaza cafe in The Netherlands and thus began a torpid affair with Belgian beers. Oh, don't worry, honey, I won't leave you. Yes, it means more to me than just an affair. Your curvy bottle and wide-mouth glass hold you so many great beer-drinking memories. I could never let that go.

I agree with some of the other comments. A strong sip-style beer for sure. Wouldn't you also classify this as a barley wine, too?

One of the best beers ever. It was one of the first beers I ever drank. (it was way too heavy for me of course ;))

Great STRONG beer. 8.5% alcohol. I had two of them within the span of 45 mins. Of course, I drank it without knowing it's potency and ended staggering back home.

Unusual for a Belgian Beer in its fullness and hoppy character

Probably my favorite beer in the world. Pronounced "DOO-full" (not "Doo-VEL"). Think champagne of beers. Very strong alcohol content, bubbly, but with a very light, crisp and subtle flavor (notwithstanding the bite of the alcohol). Probably the most dominant flavor is yeast, but still fairly subtle.
Definitely a sipping beer. Best drunk while sitting on wicker chairs, near a canal as you watch the world go by. Also exactly the kind of beer you want when you really want to de-stress quickly, but in luxury.

Oh thanks God for this beer!
The best of the best.
I love to eat black chocolate when I drink one. is it a "sacrilage"?

A great beer to chiil out with - sharp enough to provide some pleasure to the tastebuds, and light enough to casually enjoy. Not the beer to drink if you're looking for anything more than that, though.

Sorry, Yeastbeast, but Duvel is not a Trappist-style ale. It's hard to categorize the ale, but it's probably best described as a "strong ale".

Whatever the style, it's one of my favorites. Cheers!

An excellent, widely available trappist-style Belgian ale. Crisp and relatively dry compared to Chimay Red Label. A good introduction to Belgian brew craft

A really great, widely available beer. Sweet, with faint aromas of clove and a head like meringue. Like detour1999 says, take it nice and slow.

A truly amazing beer, and not for nothing considered one of the very best beers in the world.
The name 'Duvel' translates to 'The Devil' from flemish.

My favorite readily available beer.
Has a relatively sweet flavor and is extremely bubbly. Head should be pronounced.
Not a beer to be drank quickly.
Savor and enjoy.
