120 Minute IPA is a treat. This is not the beer you crack open after a long day at work, or after mowing the grass. It needs to be savored, put on a pedestal. Go out and buy a fancy beer goblet even if this is the only beer you ever drink out of it.

Dogfish Head has created an IPA that goes beyond the genre of IPA into something else. Somehow it pulls this stunt of being sweet, something that would otherwise ruin an IPA. However, with its hints of orange and licorice (the root! not the anise-flavored candy) it is very complex and balanced without losing its identity of a true IPA.

Pours with surpringly little head; true, its high alcohol content would nullify it, but the hops would have compensated. Crisp and refreshingly bitter with citrus orange notes, strangely sweet considering the hop assault, and alcohol is definitly there. Was fortunate to grab a few bottles recently, the last time being tapped at a beer fest in Boston. Still, I prefer the 90 Minute.

If you can get it, buy a few and put some back. I have to go with the 90 minute for all around taste though.
