Anchor Steam, flashy bottles, a solid beer, available in most places where fine beer is sold. A great summer beer, light on taste and unique in flavor. Ahoy !

Anchor Steam is one of my very favorite beers. Too bad its price here reflects the distance from California.
The distinct taste is not as strong as in smoked beer (like Schlenkerla), but bears a definite hint of something unusual.

Anchor Brewing virtually invented the microbrew revolution in the United States and its flagship brew still stilll stands out as one of the best. It's never missing from my refrigerator.

Had my first Anchor Steam about a mile away from the brewery in San Francisco and I've been a fan ever since. Despite the widespread availability, these guys really do stick to a small, craft beer process, which is why I think the flavor is as distinct as it is.
Anchor steam's not for everyone, though, with some bitter hoppiness and aftertaste.

Good standby, found nationwide. Miss having it on tap. Only local place that carried it switched to Dos Equis(!).

Props on the creativity of Anchor on this one, but I found it to be unpleasantly bitter, or at least not terribly rememberable. It was more than "slightly hoppy" for me.

Anchor Steam has a truly unique taste that you won't find in any other beer. Great aroma, slightly hoppy flavors on the front of the pallet that evolve as it washes down your tongue, and a refreshing after taste make this one of my all time favorites. Technically neither lager nor ale, Anchor Steam is an American Original that everyone should try at least once.
